Why Drink Green Smoothies
People who have introduced green smoothies in to their diets have reported many health benefits. Raw food eaters in particular have embraced this nutritional powerhouse to boost their already nutritious diet, and to find that missing element to achieving excellent health and vitality.
What are they?
Green smoothies are smoothies with greens blended through them. Quite simple really. Greens are incredibly nutritious, however people struggle to eat enough of them with regard to quantity and many find them hard to digest. It has been suggested that this is due to not having enough stomach acid and not having enough jaw strength to chew them till they are a creamy consistency.
Blended greens have their structure ripped apart and are effectively predigested.
Adding fruit makes them taste great and is also a clever way of getting a lot of fruit into your diet, which most people don’t have enough of in addition to enough greens.
Poker Food
When I go to play poker I almost always take a small cooler with me with a total of four “16 ounce plastic water bottles” of my special Green Smoothies. That’s right a full 1/2 gallon of smoothies. I really believe that this helps me to maintain a constituency blood glucose level (blood sugar) and provides all the anti-oxidants and phytonutrients that I need to help me think clearly and to avoid getting to hungry. I usually space the bottles out to having one every 2 hours. I can additional carry celery sticks, baby carrots and tangerines or mandarins already peeled in the cooler as well. A couple of small ice packs keep the mixture cold for 10 to 12 hours.
What’s the big deal about greens?
Greens are the primary food group that match human nutritional needs most completely.
Greens are loaded with amino acids, (the building blocks of protein), minerals, vitamins, fiber and chlorophyll.
Greens can be combined with any other food and enhance digestion by stimulating enzyme production. Hence the combination of greens and fruit in green smoothies is very acceptable i.e. versus the combination of fruit with other food types, and starch with protein e.g. classic SAD fair such as cheese and bread, milk and cereal.

Our current daily Green Smoothie
Below is the current recipe Jan and myself are using every day to create ULTRA HIGH nutritional green smoothies.
The recipe below makes about a gallon per day for two people…
2 ounces of liquid Aloe Vera per person
10 packets of Purevia or 1 tablespoon stevia ( add more to sweeten the taste no sugars and zero calories )
1 1/2 tsp flax oil – for essential Omage 3 fatty acids
1/4 tablespoon of white kidney bean extract per finished quart
1 tablespoon of Maca Root Powder
1 table spoon of Suma Root Powder16 ounces of water
1 teaspoon of soaked High Desert Bee Pollen … (Soak the bee pollen in about 2 ounces of water overnight in the refrigerator…. prepare this before you go to bed … see the Bee Pollen page for why this is so important)
1 or 2 tomatoes
2 large carrots per person
1 whole apple
1 whole Pear – optional
1 red, yellow or orange pepper
2 Navel oranges – peeled
3 leaves of Kale or 2 cups Chard or 1 cup Collards or 1 cup bok choy or any greens (rotate one in every day for nutritional variety)
1 1/2 cup of Broccoli
4 cups of spinach
Optional Oatmeal — Greatly Adversely Changes Texture and Taste —
1/2 cup of raw Quaker Oatmeal (rolled oats) for every 32 ounces of finished smoothie (optional for me but greatly affects taste … breakfast complete)
I then pour half of the blender into mason jars and add the following to the 1/2 half
10 large frozen strawberries
1 cup frozen mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, and marion berries available at Costco)
1/2 cup of frozen blueberries
1 fresh or frozen banana add another banana if you want to thicken smoothie. We usually cut and freeze the bananas when they get ripe. This is perfectly ok and cools the drink. Smoothie are much better served cold, room temperature smoothies are not nearly as good.
Then add water to adjust thickness…
When very well blended pour into mason jars.
Added the 1st half of the mixture back into the blender and repeat the frozen fruit. If you can take the mixture greener than you can skip the frozen fruit.
Be sure to blend and blend and blend. You want it to be super smooth no chunks. You should be able to drink it with a narrow straw and never have it clog.
The recipe below makes about 1/2 gallon per day for one person people…
8 ounces of water

blend adding MORE fresh spinach leaves until the mixture reaches the 4 cup line
then I add
1 whole apple cut into quarters
1 whole Pear – cut into quarters or 3 Tangerines or Mandarins – peeled

1 leaves of Kale or 1 cups Chard or 1 cup Collards or 1 cup bok choy or any greens (rotate one in every day for nutritional variety)
1 cup of Broccoli

I thought I should repost how much I love our

We needed a better and bigger blender. We actually purchased a 1000 watt Ninja Brand blender which was ok, but the motor had a burning smell when dealing with frozen vegetables. We are going to return it to Bed, Bath and Beyond when the new one arrives.
